Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park is located just 7 kilometers from the Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), makes it easily accessible. The park is the only wildlife park located within a capital city. A visit to the park allows visitors to witness lions, rhinos, giraffes, and zebras against the backdrop of Nairobi’s skyline. The park covers 117 square kilometers and serves as an important sanctuary of endangered black rhinos. Plan for early morning game drives that offer the best wildlife viewing opportunities, with more than 400 bird species recorded. A visit to Nairobi National Park provides a true safari experience without leaving the city. Another highlight is visiting the Ivory Burning Site Monument, which marks a historical anti-poaching event.

David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is located at the edge of Nairobi National Park is renowned for its work of protecting elephants. The Trust operates the most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program. Visitors can witness the incredible work of rehabilitating orphaned elephants during the public viewing hours from 11 am to 12 pm daily, watching as the elephants enjoy their midday mud bath and feeding them at the orphanage within the Nairobi National Park. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust grants you an opportunity to get involved in their work by either adopting an orphan baby elephant or engaging as a partner.

NB. Access for the special visit to the Park is only through advance booking.

Giraffe Centre

Located approximately 40 minutes from Nairobi’s City Center, The Giraffe Center is managed by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife and offers an intimate encounter with the endangered Rothschild giraffes. Visitors get an opportunity to hand-feed these towering giants from an elevated platform and learn more about conservation initiatives. For a luxury experience, visitors can stay at the nearby iconic Giraffe Manor for breakfast with the giraffes.

Nairobi National Museum

Located just 20 minutes from the Central Business District, the Nairobi National Museum is Kenya’s flagship museum that houses extensive collections  anchored on four pillars of culture, history, arts, and nature. Through its collection, the Museum seeks to interpret Kenya’s rich heritage and provides a one stop for visitors to experience the country’s rich heritage for education and leisure. Get a chance to explore the paleontology exhibit and see the early humans and prehistoric animals and the art gallery to experience the contemporary African art. The visiting hours to the Museum are between 8:30 am to 5:30 p.m., all year round including public holidays and weekends. Special night tours are available for organized groups of minimum 10 people between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

Karen Blixen Museum

The Karen Blixen Museum, is located 10km from the city center, in the serene suburb at the foot of Ngong Hills. The Museum is located in the former home of Danish author Karen Blixen, famous for her 1937 book “Out of Africa,” which chronicles life at the estate. The beautifully preserved house showcases period furniture, photographs, and personal items that bring the colonial era to life. The museum provides guided tours throughout the day by well-trained multilingual guides. The museum shop stocks a wide variety of handicrafts, posters, and postcards. The nature trail at the facility offers good views of tree hyraxes and ideal for birdwatchers.

Bomas of Kenya

If you are visitor or a resident seeking indulge in the vibrant cultures, traditions, and heritage of Kenya, Bomas of Kenya is a must visit. Bomas of Kenya was established in Kenya in 1971 with an aim of preserving, promoting, and celebrating the rich cultural diversity of the country. The facility holds daily performances at the main auditorium including colorful traditional costumes an energetic dances and traditional instruments. These cultural show, that are normally held in the afternoon provide a fun and educational way to experience the rich cultural tapestry of the country. At the Bomas of Kenya, there are replica homesteads(Bomas) demonstrating traditional architecture and lifestyles of different Kenya communities.

Maasai Market Experience

The Maasai Markets in Nairobi form a critical part of Nairobi city’s cultural and shopping experience and offers a vibrant collection of handcrafted items, souvenirs, and traditional Maasai art. These markets offer local and tourists with a chance to get unique African crafts, jewelry, and artwork. Skilled artisans display beautifully crafted wooden sculptures, colorful beadwork, traditional fabrics, and handmade jewelry. The vibrant market rotates between different locations through the week including;

  • Tuesday: Westgate Shopping Mall in Westlands (the upper car park) relocated to Kijabe Street opposite the Norfolk Hotel
  • Wednesday: Capital Centre on Mombasa Road near the airport
  • Thursday: Nakumatt Junction Shopping Mall on Ngong Road
  • Friday: Village Market in Gigiri (the upper car park)
  • Saturday: The High Court parking lot in the city center (behind the Hilton)
  • Sunday: Yaya Centre in Hurlingham

Museum of Illusion

Karura Forest

The urban forest reserve covers over 1000 hectares and provides numerous walking cycling trails through the forest. The forest features waterfalls, caves, and the Green Belt Movement tree planting sites. Ngong Hills
